Dolphin helps keep Opal Telecom staff in the Loop

Opal Telecom, the business division of Carphone Warehouse is keeping its staff in the 'Loop' thanks to a Wiki-based intranet site developed by Dolphin.
The Manchester digital agency suggested "a Facebook-style" approach to help Opal keep its 1,000 staff up-to-date in an exciting and engaging format without the need for a complex content management system.
Entitled Loop, the new Wiki-based intranet will replace Opal's four existing intranets and will enable all staff to update their own information. Andrew Stout, Managing Director at Dolphin explains: "The brief was to create an intranet with a sense of community, something that employees would really want to be in. At the same time, it had to be easy for people to share and manage their own information. By moving away from the usual corporate style of intranet to a version similar to Facebook, we hope that staff will have fun and really enjoy being involved. Overnight it has solved the challenge of keeping an employee directory with 1,000 entries up-to-date!"
Paul Lawton, chief executive at Opal comments: "We were looking for some way of totally transforming our internal communications. Loop provided just that and we hope it will increase both visits and content contributions to our intranet. As well as providing a platform for staff to interact, it will also supply a vehicle for us to promote our products and propositions internally. We want to reach a position where everyone truly feels that they are 'in the know' and kept up-to-date."
Each member of staff will have their own personalised space where they can write profiles, add pictures and create colleague groups, socialising and sharing knowledge with their peers. They will also be able to keep in touch with what is going on inside Opal with details of business and social activities, as well as latest news, products and financial information available.
